Mild the Mist upon the Hill (Class 9 English) - FAQs

The poem 'Mild the Mist upon the Hill' is written by Emily Jane Brontë, a famous English poet and novelist best remembered for her classic novel 'Wuthering Heights'.

The mild mist upon the hill signifies peace and the end of sorrow. It tells us that the day has wept its fill (rained all day) and there are no storms expected for tomorrow.

Seeing the blue mist covering the mountains, the poet's mind wanders back to the happy days of her youth and childhood. She imagines herself as a child once more, safe beneath her father's sheltering roof.

In the poem, 'morning's tears' is a beautiful poetic expression that refers to the drops of dew that rest thickly on the long, green grass.
