By this time the dental instruments were ready. The old lady fastened one end of the silk thread to Tom's tooth and tied the other to the bedpost. She pulled and the tooth hung dangling by the bedpost. Tom now had a gap in his upper row of teeth. This enabled him to smile in a new and admirable way.

Kolkata, January 23: A severe road accident took place yesterday evening at around 5 PM near the busy Park Street crossing. According to eyewitnesses, a speeding passenger bus lost control due to a sudden brake failure and collided head-on with a loaded truck coming from the opposite direction. As a result, five passengers, including a woman and a child, were badly injured. The local people quickly rushed to the spot and sent the injured to the nearest hospital. Fortunately, there were no major casualties, and they were released after receiving first aid. The accident caused a massive traffic disruption for over an hour. Eventually, the local police intervened, cleared the damaged vehicles, and restored normalcy to the area.
